My name is Guo Shenglan, a girl who is 23. You can call me Sophie if you like. I come from a very nice city with green hills and lovely waters in the west of Hunan Province, which is very famous for its spicy food. And the people there are very friendly and hospitable. It’s just near the beautiful ancient Fenghuang town, which is widely known and loved by travellers.There are lots of minorities, who live harmoniously with Han people, and has enriched its cultures and customs. As a matter of fact, I’m one of the minorities. If you ever have a chance to go there, I’ll be your guide. I’m now studying in the University of International Business and Economics as a postgraduate, majoring in International Trade. I enjoy my major very much, as it has broaden my horizon and given me a lot of fun. In my spare time, I have a lot of hobbies, such as watching movies, reading novels, writing and traveling. I often go to karaoke with my friends for relaxation, since I’m very fond of singing. My favorite movie is Gump Forrest. I still remember what he says at the beginning of the movie, “Life is like a box of chocolate. You’ll never know what you are going to get.” That’s why I take this precious opportunity to come here and would like to expect the unexpected with you all here. I have a strong interest in different cultures between countries, which I hope to share with you all too.

I was born in a small faraway town, which stays in the suburb of Peking. My hometown has the beautiful scenery. The fresh air, the sweet water, and the bright shinny accomplished me to bring up in happiness. Living there is so peaceful and quiet. My families and neighbors, my childhood companions and closed friends, and everybody have a kind plain heart. I appreciate it that they support me overcoming lots of difficulties in the truly life. I’d like to enjoy music, whatever it is the classical symphony or the popular style. Every time I hear the melody, I feel very comfortable and relaxed, just like floating in the air. Sarah Brightman and Andrew Pottery is the artist I like best. Besides, I also like jogging in the dawn, in order to keep enthusiasm facing the conditions which always involve chances and challenges. When the remaining shine of sunset sprinkles in Hutong and on old buildings, I am running across the invisible lights just like pigeons scratch the golden sky. In that time, everything seems to be static, coagulating the drops of memories. Then I am immersed in this mysterious and ancient atmosphere. In 2008 years, the Olympic Games will hold in Peking. The city will fix the whole globe’s eyes upon. And all of this brings me more opportunities to practice myself.

My name is Zhang Dan, currently I am a post-graduate in Beijing institute of technology. I major in optical engineering. I dedicate myself in learning my major and cooperating with my tutor and my classmates. I am an easy-going, industrial, optimistic girl. I enjoy doing sports in my spare time and I am good at swimming and playing basketball. I am also very fond of traveling. I have been to many famous cities like Kun Ming, San Ya, Shang Hai, Hang Zhou, Ha Erbin, Qing Dao in China. I have a dream that one day I could go abroad and visit as many places as I can. Referring to Silk Road, the first word occurred to me is merchandising. Through the Silk Road, east ancients carried products to sell, to exchange with the west ancients. From then on, the communication between the two sides began. After so many years, great changes have taken place in both west and the east. So it is of vital importance for the two sides to keep on communicating. It is especially significant for us college students to know more about the different cultures and enhance mutual understandings. I gained insight on American culture through the TV play ‘Friends’ which I enjoyed very much. I always fancy a chance to meet, to talk with American students face to face. So to me, the new Silk Road is a very precious chance. I can help American students know more about today’s China, and meantime I will have a better understanding about the American culture. I am excited about the new Silk Road and I am looking forward to it.

It is one of the most developed provinces of China. It is near Hong Kong. And people in my hometown share the same language with Hong Kong people—the Cantonese, because Hong Kong people’s ancestors are from Guangdong. I came to Beijing two years ago for study. Beijing is a historical city. Everywhere you go, there is a history to tell. The feeling is fantastic. My college is University of International Business and Economics. And my major is Finance. It is a practical major. I learn a lot about business and economics. It helps me better understand the world economic. I enjoy playing basketball very much. I also like other sports. I watch a lot of matches on TV, including NBA. I know something about the league and the players there. It is great fun to watch the matches.
