Checked baggage packaging
Checked baggage must be packaged, locked and bound. It can endure some pressure, unload and transport safely under normal operating conditions. It also should abide to the following conditions:
A .Travel box, travel bag and handbag should be locked to avoid stealing.
B .More than two bags can not be bundled into one.
C .Other articles can not be inserted on baggage.
D .Bamboo basket, net bag, rope, straw bag, plastic bag can not wrap the baggage.
E .Passengers name, detailed address, phone number should be written in and outside the baggage.
Unchecked baggage (free carry-on articles)
Unchecked baggage should be suitable for placing into the closed overhead compartment or under the seat in front of passengers.
A .Free carry-on baggage should not exceed 10kg in weight for every first class and business class passenger, and should not exceed 5kg in weight for every economy class passenger.
B. Every Passenger of first class and business class can carry two pieces of articles; every passenger of economy class can only carry one piece. Each free carry-on article maximum dimension should not exceed 55×40×20cm in size.
C. The baggage exceeding the above free baggage allowance should be checked.
Checked baggage
Limitation of baggage weight and volume
Weight concept
A. Each baggage’s maximum weight should not exceed 59kg, and its maximum dimension should not exceed 100×60×40cm. The baggage exceeding the above allowance should be transported as freight not baggage.
B. Each baggage’s minimum weight should not be less than 2kg, and its minimum dimension should not be less than 30×10×20cm. the baggage that exceeding the above allowance can not be transported as checked baggage alone.
Piece concept
The following goods shall not be accepted as carry-on or checked baggage for transportation: dangerous goods, firearms (except for hunting guns and firearms for sports purpose), arms for military or law enforcement (including major parts and components), live animals, perishable goods with distinctive smells (e.g. sea foods, durian and etc.)
Articles that can not be transported as baggage
The following articles can not be carried in baggage or as passenger’s checked or carry-on baggage. Dangerous articles, guns (excerpt hunting gun and sport gun), instruments of soldiers and police (include major accessories), supervised knife, active animals and fresh, corrosive articles (such as Durians, seafood).
Articles that can not be transported as checked baggage
The following articles that need to be taken care of should be carried as passenger’s unchecked baggage instead of being carried in baggage or as passenger’s checked baggage. As to the damage caused by passenger violating this specification, Air China will only declare the liability according to general checked baggage.
A. Important document, commercial document and files, travel certificates.
B. Stocks, currency, bill, and jewelry
C. Valuable mental and its products
D. Antiques and paintings
E. Corrosive, fragile and frail articles
F. Samples, printings out of press and scripts
G. Electronic products, digital products and video’s primary fittings.
H .Mobiles, walkmans, computer hardware and software
I. Medicines passenger should take timely.
The articles which are not suitable for carrying into cabin will be dealt with as follows:
A. Additional seats can be paid for according to baggage occupying seats.
B. The baggage can be checked in according to exempting responsibility, but the passenger would like to declare the responsibility.

The articles excerpt those fit for piece concept are suitable for weight concept.
Free baggage
A The free baggage for passenger with adult or children ticket: 40kg per first class passenger, 30 kg for business class passenger, 20kg for economy class passenger.
B The free baggage for passenger with infant ticket is 5kg and a folder infant carrying basket; if the cabin is big enough, the infant carrying basket can be carried into cabin after chief attendant approves.
Piece Concept
Free Baggage Allowance
A Adults and children traveling in first class and business class can enjoy the free checked baggage allowance of 2 pieces and the maximum weight for each bag must not exceed 32kg. The sum of the three dimensions of each bag shall not exceed 158cm and the overall dimensions of the two pieces shall not exceed 273cm.
B Adults and children traveling in economy class can enjoy the free checked baggage allowance of 2 pieces and the maximum weight for each bag must not exceed 23kg. The sum of the three dimensions of each bag shall not exceed 158cm and the overall dimensions of the two pieces shall not exceed 273cm.
C Each infant has a free checked baggage allowance of one piece provided that the sum of the three dimensions shall not exceed 115cm (45inches). In addition, they are also entitled to a free checked fully collapsible baby stroller or pushchair, which can be brought into the cabin subject to the cabin space availability and with the approval of the purser.
D Baggage with the maximum weight of over 45kg or the dimensions of each bag exceeding 203cm will not be accepted as checked baggage for transportation. If the minimum weight of each baggage is less than 2kg or the length, height and width of each bag is less than 30cm, 10cm and 20cm respectively, the baggage shall not be accepted as individually checked baggage for transportation.
New Checked Baggage Policy on Sino-US and Sino-Canada Routes:
I. General Rules
1. Adult and children traveling in economy class are entitled to 2 pieces of free baggage. The maximum dimension of each piece should not exceed 158cm and the maximum dimension of two pieces should not exceed 273cm. The weight allowance of each piece is 23kg.
2. Passengers in first class and business class are entitled to 2 pieces of free baggage and the maximum dimension of each piece should not exceed 158cm. The weight allowance of each piece is 32kg.
3. Platinum Card members are entitled to three pieces of free checked baggage. Gold Card member (including Prime Gold Card member) and Silver Card member are allowed for two free checked baggages. The maximum dimension of each piece should not exceed 158cm with the weight allowance of 32kg. This applies to above mentioned Air China elite passengers irrespective of class of service.
4. Infants paying 10% of adult-fare are entitled to one piece of free checked baggage with maximum dimension of each piece not exceeding 115cm and they are also entitled a checked foldable baby stroller or carrying basket free of charge.
5. The following items are all regarded as baggage whose dimension is not exceeding 158cm:
(1) A sleeping bag or a set of bedclothes.
(2) A haversack.
(3) A snowboard plus a pair of ski poles and a pair of ski boots, or a snowboard and a pair of ski boots.
(4) A golf bag including golf clubs and a pair of golf shoes.
(5) A travel bag or a B-4 type bag.
(6) A properly packed bicycle (single seat bicycle or racing bicycle, which is non-motor driven) with handlebars fixed at the side and pedals removed.
(7) A standard water surfboard and obstacle water surfboard.
(8) Properly packed fishing equipment consisting of not more than two fishing rods, a tackle box, a angler’s basket, a pair of angler’s shoes and a fishing kit.
(9) Sporting ammunition including not more than a rifle box containing a maximum of 2 rifles, bullets of 5kg, a gunshot cushion, a muffle and a small-size rifle kit or two hunting guns and two box or a pistol box containing a maximum of 5 pistols, bullets of 5 kg and a muffle, a pistol telescope and a small-size pistol equipment.
(10)Any portable music instruments with the length not exceeding 100cm.
6. Handicapped passengers are entitle to one free wheelchair or/and another walk-aiding equipment.
II. Excess Baggage Rates
1. Economy class passengers (not including Platinum Card, Gold Card and Silver Card passengers) must pay excess charges of RMB 200 (USD25 for overseas) for each piece exceeding 23kg up to 32kg.
2. Irrespective of any class and Companion card, with the baggage not exceeding the dimensions and weight allowances, passengers should pay one single unitfor each additional bag exceeding two pieces (three pieces for Platinum Card passengers).
3. Irrespective of any class and Companion card, with the baggage not exceeding the piece and weight allowances, passengers should pay one single unit for each bag with dimensions between 158 cm and 203 cm.
4. Economy class passengers (not including Platinum Card, Gold Card and Silver Card passengers) with their baggage not exceeding the piece and weight allowances should pay one single unit for two bags with dimensions exceeding 273 cm, but the dimension of each bag not exceeding 158 cm.
5. Irrespective of any class and Companion card, passengers should pay two single units for each additional bag exceeding two pieces with dimensions between 158 cm and 203 cm.
6. Irrespective of any class and Companion card, passengers should pay three single units for each bag with dimensions exceeding 203 cm and/or the weight of 32 kg up to a weight of 45 kg.
7. Baggage is not accepted with the weight of each piece exceeding 45kg.
III. Other Information
1. If a passenger has a connecting flight, the renewed baggage policy is also applicable for domestic segments constituting an international transportation.
2. In case of irregularities of checked baggage, the free baggage allowance standard to be referred when handling claims should be adjusted according to the new policy.
3. For passengers taking the code share flights between Air China and other foreign airlines, the checked baggage policy of the operating carriers shall apply.
4. Passengers on Sino-Canada routes and purchasing tickets before October 29, 2006 are entitled to the original free baggage allowance.
Asiana Airline:
Carry-On Allowance:
All carry-on luggage must fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you. In addition to a personal item (overcoat, laptop, purse) passengers are allowed carry-on bags as long as the total of all carry-on items does not exceed 115cm (45 inches) with a maximum weight of 10kg (22 pounds).
REMINDER: Bulkhead seats do not have underseat storage during take-off and landing.
Checked Baggage Allowance:
Passengers traveling to to/from the US, US territories, Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, Central America and South America:
Baggage Allowance: 2 pieces
- Maximum Dimensions: 62 linear inches/157 cm (length + width + height)
- Maximum Weight for Economy Class passengers: 50 lb/23 kg
- Maximum Weight for First and Business Class passengers: 70 lb/32 kg
Passengers traveling in most other destinations:
- Maximum Weight for Economy Class Passengers: 44 lb/20 kg total
- Maximum Weight for Business Class Passengers: 66 lb/30 kg total
- Maximum Weight for First Class Passengers: 88 lb/40 kg total
IMPORTANT NOTE: There are some exceptions to the above information, depending on your destination and originating city. Be sure to check the Asiana Airlines website or contact their Reservations desk for more details or if you have questions.
Excess, Overweight, Oversize Baggage Fees:
If you have more bags than the permitted allowance or your bags exceed the weight or linear restrictions, you will be charged additional fees. Contact Asiana Airlines directly for more information as this will vary by destination and departing airport.
Sports Equipment:
Some sports equipment, because of size, fragility, or other handling requirements will be charged an excess fee even if the equipment replaces one of your allowed baggage pieces. Contact Asiana Airlines directly for more information.
China Eastern Airline:
The maximum weight of an individual bag is 32kg (70lbs) or less. If your bag weighs more than this, you will be asked to repack your luggage into smaller bags. This does not affect your overall baggage allowance which is determined by your airline. Please check your allowances and the weight of your individual bags before you leave for the airport ;this will save you time and any inconvenience. Please note this currently applies to Heathrow and Gatwick airports only. Please inform your airline or handling agent about any outsize or unusual items of baggage well in advance of departure.
